What You Need to Know About Artificial Intelligence

You may have already heard of the website ThisPersonDoesNotExist.com which consists of Artificial Intelligence generated images (fake people). The goal for this platform is to show what AI can accomplish and to educate people on its advances. This platform has now become interactive where you can distinguish real from AI generated people at WhichFaceIsReal.com. Simply look at two images and try to differentiate the real from fake person. Why is this so important? It is important to be aware of such emerging technologies as Carl Bergstrom (one of the creators of WhichFaceIsReal.com) states, “when a new technology like this comes along, the most dangerous period is when the technology is out there but the public isn’t aware of it,” Bergstrom tells The Verge. By 2050, it is stated that artificial intelligence will be able to perform any intellectual task that a human can do. So, let’s uncover some facts about artificial intelligence.

  • AI will be able to recognize emotions in both photos and speech. Machines will be able to recognize up to eight different emotions and select which emotion somebody is portraying the most, mimicking the way humans interpret others’ emotions.

  • Human-computer interaction is progressing as AI is improving. Conversations with machines will become a reality as machines are learning to understand natural speech. With additional inputs, like emotions or accents, the machine can become more diverse and interesting.

  • Google has created an AI self-driving car that has officially been recognized as a driver in the US. The car obeys all traffic rules and is a real taste of the future. The US has announced to increase the number of driver-less cars on their roads.

  • A new study from Stanford University has been reported by researchers that their newly developed technology can spot tissues that exhibit “a specific type of cancer with far greater accuracy than human epidemiologists.” This advancement of AI will be revolutionary in the medical world.

  • The world’s first AI attorney, Ross, has been hired by a real-world law firm. Ross was designed to understand language, form hypotheses, research, and generate responses to back up its statements. When asking Ross a question, the machine will go through the entire body of law to give the cited information the lawyer needs.

  • Robots in Scotland are even taking part in an international world cup football challenge. Is there anything AI can’t do?

Artificial Intelligence has progressed greatly and there is no sign of it slowing down. It is important to be aware of these progressions as it is likely that AI will soon be incorporated in all our everyday lives. Each of these examples is no longer a look into the future, they are the reality of present-day.
